Platinum Century 3776 Fountain Pen
Shunichi Nakata found the Platinum Pens Company In 1919. First, he established “Nakaya Seisakusho” in Tokyo. Now, Known as Platinum fountain pens.
He asked himself, why the fountain pen remains less popular despite a steady increase on the demand of writing implements? He find out that the ink tend to dry out rather quickly in the Fountain Pen. Platinum couldn’t overlook this concern.
Toshihiro Nakata, Platinum Pen’s second president, Knew that in France students are required to use fountain pens from the primary school. So he saw the necessity to create a pen that wouldn’t have the dry ink problem within a reasonable price. Because of these concerns they came up with the “PREPPY” fountain pen in 2006. The inner cap had a spring-loaded mechanism, hence creating an extremely air tight seal. The PREPPY had gain great popularity, because of this.
The Platinum Pen company Today.
Toshiya Nakata, took over the Company as the third president, right after the passing of Toshiro Nakata; he then released “PLAISIR,” a metal body fountain pen offering the same features as the PREPPY at even more affordable price. Later, the company embarked on a development of a screw-in cap fountain pen instead of the snap-on used on the PREPPY and PLAISIR. A new fountain pen, which was named “CENTURY” in view of the 100th anniversary of the Company, that will happen in 2019, was released.
Toshiya Nakata joined Platinum Pen when he was 29 years old. His concerns were the same; the fountain pen over time had become less popular compared to the other writing tools because of the negativity that the fountain pens create when the ink dries out after a period of inactivity. Together with his technical staff, they came out with the Slip & Seal Mechanism” that prevents the ink from drying out in the pen. Thanks to this system, the ink does not dry for up to 24 months. Finally, in 2011 they release the pen.
There are many people who usually use regularly a ball point and only use the fountain pen for special occasions. Even in this scheme of infrequent use, the pen stays ready to write. This is the Platinum CENTURY Demo fountain pen.
