LABAN Pen Corporation, founded in 1981, By John Hu and his brother Charles. They partner together to build their own manufacturing plant to produce the high quality Silver and Rhodium-plated pens. Later, in 1993 they introduced their Filigree pens with precious metals, using a specialized process; This process made a major international pen producer.
In 1997 LABAN they start producing for special private needs. Later on, the company became the exclusive pen maker of the Vatican Museum, producing stunning and unique designs..
In 2004, they introduced the first dragon pen with a dragon’s head sculpted as the pen’s cap. In addition the pen has a sculpted barrel too. The 1,000 pieces limited edition pen included Sterling and Gold-plated pens as well as 22 solid 22 Kt. gold pens. This Pen made them the recipients of the Lewis & Clarke Award from the Royal Academy of Arts, for the Best pen of 2004 . This award recognizes their innovative efforts.
In 2011 LABAN created their Kaiser Series pens; Each one of them, painted by hand. a process that takes 8 to 10 hours to complete, followed by ten layers of lacquer and an another hour for polishing. It won the “Best Fashion Pen” of the year, from the Pen World Magazine. In this same year they commemorate his 30th anniversary.
The pen industry faces big challenges from a changing culture. Their goal for the future is not to pursue a volume business, but to make unique pens that reflect traditional handcraft with original design.
